The World category contains ALL non-English language sites, with subcategories similar to the top level categories of the Open Directory. See About the World ODP Categories for more information.

When suggesting a site, please look for the most suitable subcategory in which your site can be listed. For example, if your site is about a country or state, please try to find the subcategory that deals with that country or state first and submit your site there. Misdirected submissions will be removed without prior notice.

The Regional category contains English language sites about geographical regions of the world.

Africa

This category is for English language webpages, which has content that applies to all of Africa.

Topics may include, but are not limited to culture, business, education, government, news, tourism and ecology.

Sites that have a specific section of Africa to the corresponding area in the Regions subcategory. For example, some webpages may fit in the subcategory.

If a webpage covers information about one country, then please find the correct country subcategory link, such as Algeria or Namibia and submit your site there.

If your webpage is not in English, but is in another language, then find the language in World and submit you site to the best suited subcategory.

Africa is the second largest continent in size and population in the world. It includes about 800 million people living in varied landscapes of green forests, mountains, plains and deserts.

'Mother Africa' is where humans first evolved. There were many great cultures, including the famous Egyptian and Sudanese, going back thousands of years.

In the early 1600's European slave traders and colonizers started moving in, and only Ethiopia and Liberia remained independent of the European powers. Beginning with Ghana in 1957, these colonies eventually regained their independence.

There are more than 2000 African languages today, including the widely-spoken Swahili, Hausa and Yoruba.

Asia

This category is for websites related to the Caribbean Region .

Only sites relevant to the entire Caribbean will be placed at this level.
Please submit your site to the most appropriate subcategory possible at a Country, Island or Locality level depending on the location of the activities.

Websites in this category must be in English. Bilingual ones may be submitted here as well as to the appropriate World subcategory.

Sites related to Bermuda and Mexico must be sent to Regional: North America: Country ; sites related to Belize, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama must be submitted to Regional: Central America: Country and sites related to Colombia, Venezuela, French Guiana, Guyana y Suriname must be sent to Regional: South America: Country .

The Caribbean or the West Indies is a group of countries and islands in the Caribbean Sea. These countries and/or islands are located from the Southeastern areas of Mexico to the northwest of Venezuela in South America. There are at least 7,000 islands, islets, reefs, and cayes in the region. They are organized into 25 territories including sovereign states, overseas departments, and dependencies: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bahamas, Barbados, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Montserrat, Navassa Island, Netherlands Antilles, Puerto Rico, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos and US Virgin Islands.

Central America

The term "Middle East" refers to the region including Western Asia, Eastern Europe, the Gulf nations, and Northern Africa. It includes the Arab countries, Israel and Turkey. Other countries in the region include Afghanistan, Bahrain, Cyprus, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates.

It has a rich history. This region is the birthplace of both Christianity and Islam, and the cradle of many great ancient civilizations.

In modern times, the region is better known as the world's leading source of crude oil, and as a place of constant political conflict and turmoil.

North America

Please submit sites to the most specific locality, such as the city, state, province, or country to which they pertain. Sites submitted to this category should contain information that is relevant to all of North America but not the entire world.
The continent of North America was formed from the primordial continent of Laurentia, and is the third largest continent in the world with a land area of 24.3 million sq km. It encompasses all lands and nearby islands between the Isthmus of Panama and the North Pole, inclusive, in the Western Hemisphere.

The ODP defines North America as Bermuda, Canada, Greenland (Kalaalit Nunaat), Mexico, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, and the United States of America. Related categories including other North American nations are Regional/Caribbean and Regional/Central_America/. Please submit sites only to the most relevant category.

Oceania

This region is the combination of two world regions, Australasia and Oceania.


Australasia contains the countries of Australia and New Zealand, and their associated islands and archipelagos.


Oceania contains several island groups in the central and south Pacific ocean. These groups are Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia.


The Australasia and Oceania regions collectively covers a land area of 3,285,048 square miles. The combined area extends 2000 miles (3200km) North - South and 2500 miles (4000km) East - West.

Most Western point is Steep Point in Western Australia. (113 degrees East) Most Northern point is Eastern Island, Midway Islands. (28 degrees North) Most Easterly point is Clipperton Island. (109 degrees West) Most Southerly point is Macquarie Island, New Zealand. (54 degrees South)

The Pacific Ocean is the world's largest and deepest ocean.

Comprising twelve countries, South America covers an area of 17.22 million square kilometers, or around 13% of the world's surface. It has a population of 310 million, or around 6% of the world's population. Most countries in the region are of large or medium size. The main features of the region include its vast land mass and its wealth of natural and human resources.
